Real women. Real journeys. From every corner of the world — these are the stories that built our community.

From Cleaner to Leader — and Every Step Between

All Women Connect was founded on the belief that every woman's story deserves to be heard. Whether you arrived in a new country with nothing but determination, built a business from your kitchen table, or quietly led your community while the world wasn't watching — your story matters here.

The women below are members of our community. Their journeys span continents, industries, and decades. What unites them is simple: they refused to let their circumstances define their ceiling.

Amara Okafor — Founder, Sparkle Clean Ltd
Nigeria → UK
"

I came to the UK with two suitcases and a dream. People told me cleaning was beneath me. I told them it was my foundation.

Amara Okafor

Founder, Sparkle Clean Ltd

Amara arrived in London from Lagos in 2014 with a nursing background and a determination to build something of her own. Unable to get her qualifications recognised immediately, she took a cleaning job to pay the bills.

Within three years, she had launched Sparkle Clean Ltd, a commercial cleaning company serving offices across South London. Today she employs 14 women — many of them immigrants like herself.

"All Women Connect gave me the confidence to stop apologising for where I started. My story is my strength."

Priya Sharma — Director, Bright Futures Tutoring
India → UK
"

Back home I was a teacher. Here I was invisible. AWC helped me see that my experience was an asset, not a liability.

Priya Sharma

Director, Bright Futures Tutoring

Priya moved from Pune to Birmingham in 2016 to join her husband. A qualified teacher with 10 years of experience, she struggled to find work in the UK education system and spent two years cleaning offices and schools.

Through All Women Connect, she found mentorship, confidence, and a network that believed in her. She launched Bright Futures Tutoring in 2019, now supporting over 200 students across the Midlands.

"The women in this community didn't just cheer me on — they opened doors I didn't even know existed."

Maria Constantin — Owner, Casa Mia Cleaning Services
Romania → UK
"

I was embarrassed to say I was a cleaner. Now I say it with pride — because I turned it into a business that supports my whole family.

Maria Constantin

Owner, Casa Mia Cleaning Services

Maria came to the UK from Bucharest in 2010, part of the wave of Eastern European workers who helped build Britain's service economy. She cleaned homes, hotels, and offices for nearly a decade.

In 2019, inspired by Oana's story and the All Women Connect community, she registered her own cleaning company. Casa Mia now has a team of 8 and a waiting list of clients.

"Oana showed me that where you start is not where you have to stay. This community is proof of that."

Fatima Al-Rashid — CEO, Nour Catering Co.
Jordan → UK
"

As a Muslim woman in business, I sometimes felt I had to choose between my identity and my ambition. AWC showed me I never had to choose.

Fatima Al-Rashid

CEO, Nour Catering Co.

Fatima moved from Amman to Manchester in 2012 with her family. She worked in hospitality and catering for years, often as the only woman — and the only Muslim — in the room.

She founded Nour Catering Co. in 2020, specialising in Middle Eastern cuisine for corporate events and private functions. The business grew 300% in its second year.

"All Women Connect gave me a space where I didn't have to explain myself. I could just be a businesswoman — full stop."

Grace Thompson — Founder, Roots & Wings Childcare
Jamaica → UK
"

My grandmother raised nine children and never called herself a leader. I call her my greatest inspiration.

Grace Thompson

Founder, Roots & Wings Childcare

Grace grew up in Kingston, Jamaica, and moved to Bristol in 2008. She worked as a carer, a cleaner, and a school dinner lady before finding her calling in early years childcare.

Roots & Wings Childcare, which she founded in 2017, now operates two nurseries in Bristol and is known for its culturally inclusive approach to early education.

"I built this for the children who look like me, and for the women who work for me — so they know their story can be a business too."

Lucia Ferreira — Director, LF Beauty Academy
Brazil → UK
"

I did nails in Brazil, I did nails in London. The difference is that now I teach others to do the same — and build their own freedom.

Lucia Ferreira

Director, LF Beauty Academy

Lucia arrived in London from São Paulo in 2013, speaking little English and carrying a set of nail tools. She built a loyal client base through word of mouth in the Brazilian community.

After joining All Women Connect, she was encouraged to formalise her skills and launch a training academy. LF Beauty Academy now trains over 100 students a year across London.

"This community taught me that my skills had value beyond my own hands. I could multiply them — and I did."
